Transferring your domain to Lunarcloud gives you access to our easy-to-use management tools, free domain privacy protection, and seamless integration with our hosting services.

This guide will walk you through the entire domain transfer process step by step.

Before You Start

Before initiating a domain transfer, make sure you meet these requirements:

• ✅ Your domain must be at least 60 days old
• ✅ Your domain must be unlocked at your current registrar
• ✅ You have the EPP code (Authorization code) from your current registrar
• ✅ Your domain is not expired
• ✅ Your domain does not have any pending transfers

📝 Note: Domain transfers typically take 5-7 days to complete, but can be faster depending on your current registrar.

Step 1: Check Domain Eligibility

First, verify that your domain is eligible for transfer:

1. Log in to your Lunarcloud Dashboard
2. Navigate to Domains → Transfers
3. Enter your domain name to check eligibility
4. If eligible, proceed to the next step

🔍 Supported TLDs: We support transfers for .com, .net, .org, .io, .co, .biz, .info, .us, .ca, .eu, .in, .me, .tv, and many more.

Step 2: Prepare Your Domain

You'll need to prepare your domain at your current registrar:

2.1 Unlock Your Domain

Domain locks prevent unauthorized transfers. You must unlock your domain before initiating a transfer:

1. Log in to your current registrar's control panel
2. Find your domain management section
3. Look for "Registrar Lock" or "Transfer Lock"
4. Disable the lock (turn it OFF)

🔄 Note: After the transfer completes, Lunarcloud will automatically apply our registrar lock for security.

2.2 Get Your EPP Code

The EPP code (also called Authorization code or Transfer key) is like a password for your domain:

1. In your current registrar's control panel
2. Look for "EPP Code", "Authorization Code", or "Transfer Key"
3. Request the code (it's usually emailed to you)
4. Copy and save the code

🔐 Security Tip: Never share your EPP code with anyone. It's the key to your domain ownership.

Step 3: Initiate the Transfer

Now you're ready to start the transfer process with Lunarcloud:

1. Go to Domains → Transfers
2. Click "New Transfer"
3. Enter your domain name
4. Enter your EPP code
5. Select the number of years to add (we'll add this to your existing registration)
6. Review the transfer cost
7. Click "Initiate Transfer"

💰 Pricing: Transfer costs vary by TLD. You'll see the exact price during the checkout process.

Step 4: Approve the Transfer

After initiating the transfer, you'll need to approve it:

1. Check your email (both at your current registrar and Lunarcloud)
2. You'll receive a transfer approval request
3. Click the approval link and follow the instructions
4. Some registrars may require additional confirmation

📧 Note: If you don't see the email, check your spam/junk folder.

Step 5: Wait for Completion

The transfer process typically takes 5-7 days:

• Day 1-2: Transfer request is submitted and verified
• Day 3-5: Your current registrar processes the transfer
• Day 5-7: Transfer completes, and your domain is now with Lunarcloud

You can check the transfer status anytime in your Domain Transfers page.

Step 6: Post-Transfer Setup

Once your transfer is complete, follow these steps:

6.1 Verify DNS Settings

Your DNS records will carry over from your previous registrar. However, we recommend verifying them:

1. Go to Domains → My Domains
2. Click "Manage DNS" on your domain
3. Review and update your DNS records if needed
4. Common records to check: A, CNAME, MX, and TXT records

6.2 Enable Domain Privacy

Protect your personal information in the WHOIS database:

1. In the DNS Management page, look for "Domain Privacy"
2. Enable privacy protection (FREE for eligible domains)

🛡️ Important: Domain privacy hides your personal contact information from the public WHOIS database, protecting you from spam and identity theft.

6.3 Update Nameservers (Optional)

If you want to use Lunarcloud's nameservers:

• Primary: dns1.namecheaphosting.com
• Secondary: dns2.namecheaphosting.com

What If Something Goes Wrong?

Transfers can sometimes face issues. Here are common problems and solutions:

Issue: "Transfer failed - Domain locked"

Solution: Go back to your current registrar and ensure the domain is unlocked. Then resubmit the transfer.

Issue: "Invalid EPP code"

Solution: Double-check the EPP code. If it's still not working, request a new code from your registrar.

Issue: "Domain not eligible"

Solution: Make sure your domain is at least 60 days old and not expired.

Issue: "Transfer denied"

Solution: You may need to approve the transfer via email. Check both your registrar and Lunarcloud emails.
